To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
    • Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
    • Three Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above



All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

Mature Applicants

An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older (21 or older for degree programs) as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet program eligibility. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U level or equivalent.

College Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber will use your college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. You may also be eligible for transfer credit if you are admitted to a Humber program.

University Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber will use your university courses and grades to determine program eligibility. You may also be eligible for transfer credit if you are admitted to a Humber program.

Selection Includes Additional Requirements:

Admission is based on the academic criteria indicated and the result of the evaluation of additional requirements which may include a portfolio, audition, letter of intent, reference, etc. These vary by program. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee an offer of admission.

In order to continue with your application for Broadcasting – Radio, you must complete this step in the application process. Applicant selection is based on academic criteria and results of these additional requirements. This contains all the information you need to prepare and submit additional requirements for consideration. If you have any questions, please contact Admissions.

Additional Requirements

Applicants are required to register for and attend an audition where they will complete an oral communication assessment, a current events questionnaire/discussion and a writing sample. This assessment will take approximately two to three hours.

i. Oral Communication Assessment

Applicants must prepare a written piece for a 90-second segment such as a newscast, commercial, entertainment piece or sports report which will be presented during the assessment. Please prepare your segment and bring it with you to your audition.

ii. Current Events Questionnaire/Discussion

The questionnaire will identify your knowledge of current events and the radio industry. There are two parts to
the questionnaire. Please complete part one, and bring it with you. Part two will be provided during the assessment. You will have a brief discussion about it with one of
our faculty.

To prepare for this assessment, it is highly recommended you listen to a variety of radio and pay attention to
news and current events.

iii. Writing Sample

Applicants will complete a writing sample. The topic will be assigned on the day of the assessment and will
be general in nature. The writing sample assessment will take approximately one hour.

Applicants must register to attend this admissions event. Please register for this event as soon as possible.
Log-in to MyHumber to register:

  1. Log-in to MyHumber
  2. Select the Applicant tab
  3. Select the Applied Programs tab
  4. Select your Year and Applicant Number from the drop-down menu, then click Submit
  5. Click on “Do I Have Any Missing Requirements”
  6. Click on “Go to Events” (located under the “Link” section, near the bottom right of the page)
  7. Choose from a list of available assessment dates and follow the prompts.

Applicants must meet both academic and additional requirements in order to meet minimum program eligibility. Meeting minimum eligibility does not guarantee an offer of admission.

All additional requirements will be evaluated and a score will be calculated by the academic school.

Admission decisions will be available via MyHumber, or by email and mail. Admission decisions will not be
released by phone.

Our Program

Humber’s Broadcasting – Radio diploma program prepares you for the performing, creative, technical and business elements of radio and the audio world, including podcasting. You’ll learn about radio station operations, broadcast equipment and the fundamentals of gathering, writing, producing and delivering content for all genres of radio – including the digital and mobile space. On the business side, you’ll gain in-demand skills in content producing, station management, sales, marketing, news, programming and market research.

Students in our program contribute to the content on 96.9 FM Radio Humber - a fully licensed campus and community radio station regulated by the Canadian Radio-Television Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). Our signal transmits in the GTA – and our station can also be heard online around the world via Your radio broadcasting education will include the exclusive opportunity to contribute to Radio Humber by creating original content in our digital studios and bringing it to life for our listeners.

Work Placement

Radio work placement opportunities are available at radio stations across Canada following your fourth semester (160-hour placement). We will assist you in finding placements at stations in your areas of interest, providing you with valuable experience and industry contacts.

Our placement partners include 680 News, Talk Radio AM 640, KiSS 92.5, Sportsnet 590 The FAN, 102.1 The Edge, Z103.5 FM and CBC Radio, among others.

Radio Humber is a community/campus radio station that serves the "Humber Community" - namely: Humber College, its' schools, students and faculty at all three campuses, as well as their surrounding geographical communities.

Radio Humber broadcasts live from the campus of the Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Toronto Canada. Play by plays with the Humber Hawks - a consolidated project in cooperation with Humber BRTV are also broadcasted by Radio Humber. New broadcasters are provided with a "best of class" radio training facility and have a long list of well-known Alumni who got their start with Radio Humber.

Radio Humber is Canada's first "All Canadian" radio station introducing and breaking new Canadian artists of all types of musical stylings. This includes a massive instrumental catalogue that is performed, recorded and supplied by students and faculty at the Lakeshore campus.

OAB (Ontario Association of Broadcasters) Career Day

On Monday March 7, 2016, the Ontario Association of Broadcasters (OAB) held their annual career day in Toronto. OAB career day is a great opportunity for all second-year Broadcasting-Radio and Radio postgraduate program students to join in on a roundtable discussion with industry and other radio students from across Ontario.
