Advertising and Marketing Communications

    • Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
    • Three Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above

Mature Applicants

An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older (21 or older for degree programs) as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet program eligibility. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U level or equivalent.

College Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber will use your college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. You may also be eligible for transfer credit if you are admitted to a Humber program.

University Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber will use your university courses and grades to determine program eligibility. You may also be eligible for transfer credit if you are admitted to a Humber program.

Selection: Admission selection is based on the academic criteria indicated. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission.

The 2016/2017 fee for two semesters was:

  • domestic $3,937.78
  • international $14,200.

Additional Costs

Approximately $500 per semester for textbooks and printing costs. A home computer is encouraged – instructors can advise on technical needs and sources for affordable Macintosh computers and software.

Humber Degree Pathways

Complete your degree with us. Humber's degrees are designed with our diploma graduates in mind. We'll give you credit for what you’ve already learned and help you take the next step in less time.

Graduates may be considered for admission to:

Creative Advertising, Bachelor of 

Graduates with an overall grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent or more may be considered for admission. Graduates may then complete the degree with the equivalent of six semesters of full-time study plus a work term. Successful applicants must also possess:

  • ENG4U or Humber’s WRIT 100 or 200 level course, or equivalent, with a minimum grade of 70 per cent

Admission will be based on availability in the program.

*The advanced standing outlined is a general guideline. Diploma graduates may be required to take courses in lower semesters in order to meet the overall degree learning outcomes.

Graduates of any two-year diploma program at Humber who have attained a cumulative grade point average of 70% or greater will be eligible to enter year three of the 4-yr Bachelor of Applied Management (BAM) at the University of New Brunswick.  Depending on the diploma program, students may be exempted from study in certain courses and therefore, requested to take alternate courses offered by the Faculty of Business.

Our Program

Humber’s Advertising and Marketing Communications diploma program is a two-year program consisting of four academic semesters with a four-week placement at the end of the final semester.

Once you’ve completed the program, you will graduate with promotional writing, presentation and organizational skills, as well as introductory design, basic production and supplier management skills. Courses in advertising, marketing communications, public relations and project coordination will give you an understanding of the breadth of employment opportunities.

The program will focus on providing you with skills that will enable you to work with advertising creatives including copywriters, graphic and interactive designers, art directors, and suppliers.

Note: This program will be of most interest to Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) graduates and transfer students from other advertising - related programs.

Humber AdCentre

The Humber AdCentre was launched as a live lab to provide students with real work opportunities before entering the industry.

Instead of just being given just a grade for assignments, students are provided with a chance to work with real clients, on actual accounts, receiving first-hand experience in the field.

Working with established businesses will not only prepare students for the fast-paced excitement of the industry, but will also help develop portfolio work and reference points for interviews.

The program will focus on providing students with skills that will enable them to work with advertising agencies, copywriters, graphic and interactive designers, art directors and suppliers.

Your Career

Our graduates can find employment in entry-level positions such as advertising traffic co-ordinator, assistant account co-ordinator, junior account co-ordinator and marketing/advertising specialist, co-ordinating the creative activities in advertising departments of small- to medium-sized advertising, design, marketing, and communications agencies including not-for-profit organizations.
