Humber’s Graphic Design advanced diploma program develops creative and strategic thinkers who can design and execute for print and interactive media. You will learn how to generate creative solutions and produce visual materials for effective design communication across a wide range of media. You will become proficient with strategy, typography, digital design, corporate design, web and interactive design, information design, editorial design, and entrepreneurship providing you a skill set to thrive in the design industry.
The first year of this program is shared with the two-year Advertising and Graphic Design diploma, which will offer you exposure to the different areas of communication design and allow for confirming your focus into either program for your second year of study.
You will explore the many facets of graphic design with a diverse curriculum that features instruction in industry-based technology. Opportunities to participate in industry competitions will allow you to put your design skills to the test. This program includes the unique opportunity to gain real-world experience through Humber’s Ad Centre, our in-house ad agency, through which you will get to produce campaigns for commercial and non-profit clients while simultaneously making career connections and building your portfolio.
Our advisory committee provides regular review of and input into our curriculum, ensuring our program is always on the cutting edge of industry developments.Courses Program Standards
The unpaid work placement normally takes place during the month following the last semester of study (May). Students research the design industry to take advantage of opportunities to market themselves to prospective employers to find their own work placement locally or abroad.
Students are supported through this process by faculty advisors. Students also have exposure to real-world projects through Humber’s Ad Centre.
The Humber AdCentre was launched as a live lab to provide students with real work opportunities before entering the industry.
Instead of just being given just a grade for assignments, students are provided with a chance to work with real clients, on actual accounts, receiving first-hand experience in the field.
Working with established businesses will not only prepare students for the fast-paced excitement of the industry, but will also help develop portfolio work and reference points for interviews.
