Through this hands-on learning process, you will develop the fundamental creative and technical multimedia design and development capabilities needed to pursue employment in web design and interactive content development.
You will cultivate important collaborative teamwork and project management skills through group assignments that will prepare you for collaborative projects in the field and gain an empathetic view of people and real-world perspective on the nature of multimedia work from experienced and knowledgeable professors. You will be prepared to pursue new media opportunities by developing a comprehensive portfolio that you can present to potential employers or clients, online or in person, and have exposure to the entrepreneurial opportunities open to professionals in this rich field. Students in this program will also learn about user experience/interaction design through our unique usability lab.Courses Program Standards
In the final semester, you will complete practical fieldwork placements while completing classroom work and the development of an employment portfolio.
The Humber AdCentre was launched as a live lab to provide students with real work opportunities before entering the industry.
Instead of just being given just a grade for assignments, students are provided with a chance to work with real clients, on actual accounts, receiving first-hand experience in the field.
Working with established businesses will not only prepare students for the fast-paced excitement of the industry, but will also help develop portfolio work and reference points for interviews.
The Usability Lab is a new facility for students in the School of Media Studies & Information Technology at Humber College. This “Live Lab” is a full-fledged usability lab where content creators can capture & assess the interaction between user and design.
This Usability Lab is specialized, in that it was purposefully built for usability studies to ensure that the environment does not interfere with the testing. Designed with flexibility at its core, it has been equipped with a broad variety of technology, supporting usability testing at many different levels of sophistication.
What makes this lab unique is the fact that it is mobile. This one-of-a-kind usability lab can be delivered to those who wish to use and evaluate our designs, as well as their own. For our students, they can participate in, and lead experiments that will truly test the designs they have developed, to make sure they work in the manner they have been designed to work.
Demand for creative and effective multimedia content continues to grow across all sectors of the economy, creating a wealth of opportunities for interactive design and development specialists with proven skills and current knowledge of industry needs.
Help corporations, non-profits and government agencies stand out in the vast and cluttered digital universe with your ability to create compelling and effective interactive media content for smartphones, tablets and desktop computers. Your skill at creating a variety of multimedia applications using the full range of industry standard software will allow you to advance in this rapidly evolving field.
With practical training through our program, you’ll have opportunities at a broad variety of large or small organizations that have media production and presentation facilities.
