This course provides an overview of management and the general operation of an advertising, design or communication studio. Students learn how to work with other creative talent; how to select and commission photography, copywriting and illustration services; and how to select appropriate services for printing and/or other trades. The negotiation of fees is also covered. Focus is given to the business side of the creative industry, including the development of a resume and cover letters. Given the changes that have occurred in this sector, particularly over the past decade, effective business skills are an essential factor in succeeding as a creative practitioner.
