Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet all the requirements below in order to meet minimum program eligibility. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee an offer of admission. Admission decisions will be available via MyHumber, or by email and mail. Admission decisions will not be released by phone.

Admission selection is based on the following 3 requirements:

  • Academic

    To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

    • Practical work experience or education in a design-related field such as fine arts, digital design, illustration, photography, web design/development, marketing, prepress, etc.
    • Interest in learning and pursuing a career in multimedia and/or design industry
    • Computer literacy (Windows or Mac)
    • Portfolio of four to six design pieces of traditional or digital media (samples may include graphic design, illustration, paintings/sculptures or web design)
    • Current resumé
    • Letter of intent

    Mature Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.

    College Transfer Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent in the program. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

    University Transfer Applicants

    An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or university courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or university courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

  • English Language Proficiency

    All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

  • Portfolio

  • Applicants will present a portfolio that includes 4 – 6 examples of original work, a resume, and a personal statement which summarizes academic, personal and career objectives. You should also include a written description outlining any notable details of your portfolio pieces (i.e. software used, design techniques applied and project purpose).

Additional Costs

Approximately $500 – supplies, including graphic art supplies, mounting boards, purchase of stock imagery for assignments, reference texts, hardware etc.

How to Apply

Applications to Humber are made through ontariocolleges.ca. Be sure to submit your application by the equal consideration deadline of February 1. You may apply after February 1, however, post-February 1 applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis depending on the availability of the space in the program. Motivated. Creative. Innovator. If these words describe you, then our intensive Graphic Design for Print & Web certificate program is for you. As a student, you will learn the fundamentals of design theory and communicate design thinking strategies through the use of functional composition, typography, illustration, interactive media and web design. Throughout our program, you will work towards developing a cutting-edge portfolio filled with real-world projects that will help you stand out in the creative field of graphic and web design.

In order to achieve the best, you will learn from the best. This program offers you access to the latest industry standards in hardware, design applications and instruction. Our labs are equipped with the latest Apple workstations, up-to-date Adobe Creative Cloud software and our course instruction is facilitated by industry-leading working professionals in their field of practice and study. Over the course of the program, you will build connections with industry professionals, alumni and community partners to help prepare you for future career opportunities, through supportive mentorship and coaching.

January intake scheduling: students will benefit from our streamlined flexible schedule, allowing them to work their day jobs while they study for their dream jobs.

Your Career

Upon graduating, our students hit the ground running as junior–intermediate graphic and web designers. Our program will prepare you with the necessary employment skills to find work in creative advertising agencies, design boutiques and studios, multimedia firms, freelance opportunities, and more. You will use your newly acquired knowledge and skills to create stunning marketing materials, impactful brand identities, engaging editorial and publication designs, and interactive websites that are mobile-ready and SEO compatible using HTML5, CSS, and jQuery; and that meet the needs and demands of small–large scale companies.
